Before beginning any roof-related work, please submit the following minimum documentation to the Village of Wadsworth. First, complete the Village of Wadsworth Application for a Building Permit. With this application, a roofing contractor must also submit a copy of its state license to the Village. Note that, for a non-residential project, the roofing contractor must have an "Unlimited" IL state roofing license.

Generally, a homeowner may perform his or her own roofing work on a property that the homeowner owns (except for a multi-family dwelling).

While a general contractor may sub out its roofing work, any subcontractor must be an IL licensed roofer. Should a roofing subcontractor be involved, then the following documentation must also be submitted to the Village with the initial building permit application:

• A copy of the contract between the general contractor and the subcontractor;
• A copy of the subcontractor's photo identification;
• A surety bond and a certificate of insurance from the subcontractor; and
• A copy of the contract between the property owner and the roofing contractor. 

The Village will contact the applicant when the completed building permit is ready for issuance. Note that incomplete or inaccurate application materials will significantly delay the permitting process. 

Finally, any contractor performing work upon Village-owned property or right-of-way must submit a certificate of insurance that contains both general liability and workman’s compensation coverages that specifically names the Village of Wadsworth as an additional insured. An indemnification agreement or waiver may also be required.
