When Do I Need A Building Permit?

A building permit gives you legal permission to start the construction of a building project in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. The Village of Wadsworth requires a building permit for any project that results in an alteration or an improvement to a property. In general, minor changes, such as painting and property maintenance, do not require a permit.

The best way to determine if your proposed project will require a permit is to call the Village Hall at 847.336.7771.

NOTE: Any construction work started without first applying for a Village building permit is subject to a permit fee that is double the amount of the usual fee. (See Village Code Sec. 8-2-3(E).)
