An adult mosquito control application is scheduled to be completed overnight between sunset on Tuesday, September 1, and sunrise on Wednesday, September 2, weather permitting. The application is planned in response to high adult mosquito populations after excessive August rainfall, which created favorable breeding conditions and increased mosquito activity across the area.

The treatment will use Merus®, an Organic Materials Review Institute listed product for wide-area adult mosquito control. Merus contains natural pyrethrins, a botanical insecticide derived from chrysanthemum flowers. Applications are made at night with truck-mounted ultra-low volume equipment, when mosquitoes are most active and conditions are suitable.

Residents can help reduce mosquito activity by removing standing water from buckets, bird baths, flowerpots, clogged gutters, tarps, and other containers. When outdoors, residents are encouraged to use an EPA-registered insect repellent, wear light-colored loose-fitting clothing, and avoid peak mosquito activity when possible.
